Bologna Foodie Day


Morning: Small Group Food Walking Tour

Discover Bologna from a culinary perspective on this food walking tour. With a knowledgeable guide, visit one of the city's oldest food markets, and check out traditional food shops like a bakery and pasta maker. Learn about Bologna's culture, architecture and history as you enjoy tastings of cheese, cured meats, bread, chocolate, gelato and more. It's a delicious way to get to know this Italian foodie mecca.

This 3.5-hour walking food tour offers 5 authentic tastings (a big meal) at a diversity of places such as the food market with its ancient family-run shops, a bakery, a chocolate factory, a pasta laboratory, and a gelato shop. It is recommended to eat a light breakfast before enjoying this food experience. The small-group tour combines food and art while providing the chance to discover the Piazza Maggiore with the Neptune Fountain and St. Petronio Basilica, the Archiginnasio Palace - old University of Bologna, the Two Towers, and much more.

This tour is led by entertaining local guides that will not only ensure you are well fed, but they will also educate you with stories, which will provide you with insight into Bologna's traditions and culture. You will visit the oldest bakery in Bologna and taste their delicious "torta di riso" (rice cake). Continue on to the most ancient chocolate factory of the town where the first solid chocolate "sfoglia nera" was invented and then sample their specialties. Afterwards, head over to a deli-store where you will be served cured meats and cheeses (Parmigiano Reggiano with balsamic vinegar, Mortadella, Salame di Felino, Caciotta, Prosciutto di Parma) with typical breads and local wine. Stop by a pasta laboratory to taste homemade egg pasta and then visit a gelato shop. That's a real progressive lunch, Buon Appetito.

Learn to cook like a Bolognese in a typical Bologna home. Get hands-on help preparing your own lunch or dinner from a friendly chef during this 3-hour activity. Begin by preparing the dough for tagliatelle or tortellini, and then roll it out and fill it before baking. Learn how to prepare the dough for the ravioli and how to fill the ravioli as well. Prepare a typical 3-course meal, including an appetizer, homemade pasta or tortellini course, a second course and dessert. Dishes may include mixed croutons, eggplant with mushrooms, home-jarred vegetables in oil and Bolognese-style pasta. At the end of the meal, enjoy dessert with fine local wine.

Day 4: Santa Margherita

Morning: Self Transfer - Economy Class Train

This morning after a delightful continental breakfast plan to make your way to the Bologna train station to catch your train to Santa Margherita. You travel via Milan and transfer to your regional train to the coast.

You will have reserved economy seats for your rail journey today.

 

Afternoon: Santa Margherita Arrival

Arriving into Santa Margherita Ligure you can catch a taxi to your accommodations and check in.

Accommodation: Albergo Minerva or similar, 3 Nights

This property is a 9-minute walk from the beach. Albergo Minerva is located just 650 feet from the coast and its harbor. Set in its own well-kept garden, it offers free Wi-Fi throughout, a rooftop terrace, and a sauna. Breakfast is served daily in the dining room. It is a varied buffet, offering sweet and savory products, and local specialties including Focaccia Genovese bread. In the summer you can enjoy having breakfast in the garden, equipped with tables and chairs.

Morning: Train to Monterosso Al Mare

Make your way to the Santa Margherita train station and climb aboard your regional train to Monterosso Al Mare.

Guided Tour of the Cinque Terre
A string of 5 villages clinging to the cliff overlooking a stunning blue sea and immersed in a luscious vegetation which has attracted for years visitors from all over the world, who come and seek the genuine atmosphere of the fishing villages of "once upon the time". Due to the difficult access from the road, and sometimes also from the sea, these villages have kept their unspoilt simplicity of the fishing villages where everything is natural and genuine. Your local guide will be glad to show you the beauty of these villages taking you by local train from one to the other and will suggest suitable places for lunch.

This afternoon you will be taken to the Riomaggiori train station where you will say goodbye to your Tour guide and make your way back to Santa Margherita.

Today you have the whole day at leisure on the Ligurian coast.

Spend a delightful morning getting to know Portofino on a three-our walking and boat tour with round-trip ferry tickets from Santa Margherita Ligure included. Climb to the Church of Saint Giorgio for panoramic views of the charming village, and then reward yourself with a focaccia tasting in the local bakery. Day 7: Como
 

On to Lake Como in the Italian Alps

This morning you will make your way to the train station to begin your journey to Milan and Lake Como.

Arriving into Milano Centrale train station, you have a half hour to make your way to the connecting train to Como.

You will have reserved seats on the regional train to Como at the southern end of Lake Como.

As you arrive into Como, plan to taxi on your own to our hotel. You may secure your luggage with the hotel staff and step out for a nice lunch nearby before returning around 2:00 pm to complete your check in.

Check in to the hotel and enjoy time as you wish along the shores of Lake Como.

Evening: Guest Choice Dinner

Como is a city located in the southern part of Lake Como. It is known for its Gothic-style Duomo, the panoramic funicular and the pedestrian path along the lake. Wander through historic neighborhoods and take in the vibrant cultural atmosphere of this magical town. Immerse yourself in a private dining experience at a Cesarina's home, enjoy an exclusive show cooking and taste authentic Como recipes treasured in family cookbooks passed down by real Italian Mammas. Feel the warmth of Italian hospitality as you connect with local people. Morning & Afternoon: Como and Bellagio sightseeing tour and lake Cruise

Enjoy the best of Lake Como in Italy's beautiful Lake District. Discover the monuments of the medieval town, take a two-hour panoramic cruise on Lake Como to the enchanting village of Bellagio (summer only) or ride the funicular to Brunate to admire a breath-taking view of the Lake (winter only). Lake Como is one of the most popular destination in Europe, surrounded by stunning alpine scenery and beautiful villages famed for their high-quality silk production.

After meeting your guide, start the tour of Como visiting historical Center of the City. There, your knowledgeable guide will lead you around the medieval streets to reach the impressive Duomo, the Cathedral. After the walk you will have some free time to enjoy Como's historic center and shop in the many local boutiques. The tour continues with a 2-hours cruise on the lake. Admire the lakeside villas and keep an eye out for Villa d'Este at Cernobbio, a luxurious hotel set in tropical gardens. On board you can take advantage of the restaurant for a typical Italian lunch (not included). The view is always impressive since mild Mediterranean climate ensures an abundance of exotic and rare plants to thrive year-round. Docking at the town of Bellagio, one of the most famous towns on the lake, you can follow the steep alleys running up from the lake and stop for a coffee or gelato at one of the lively cafes housed in grand historic buildings. Spend some time at your leisure here before cruise back to Como.

Arriving back to Como you have a little time to relax before heading off to your Farewell Dinner tonight.
